Every now and then while I'm busy with this publication working on stories about writers and producers and bands and engineers, I come across that rare musical entity that makes me break the rules that we agreed upon when I started this magazine two years ago. We hold true to our purpose of bringing exposure to indie artists about ninety-eight per cent of the time. Once in a two-percent blue moon we stumble upon and discover a talent worthy of the title " phenomenon " who is capable of defying all the usual boundaries imposed by the music business that most of our readers play a part in. And, I have found that these artists serve a deeper purpose to lift up and inspire their audiences and their peers alike.
David Brown is not only a great musician and vocalist but he has that special
" something " that I swear is sadly missing from our industry. That would be the entertainment aspect of being a performing artist. For here is a man who has come from pure entertainment background, his father being a very well-known entertainer ( more on him in another issue ) and has been dancing, singing and playing his saxophone nearly all his life. When " The Sax Man " is performing, this man is living each and every note. You can see it on his face, the way he moves his feet and you can hear it in the notes he either plays on his horn or sings.
Funny thing is, David Brown is so good at what he does, that if he only played the sax or was merely a singer of songs , I 'd be telling you how great he is with only half of his musical arsenal, but that's not the case. David plays his instrument with such passion and when returning to a vocal you find yourself saying the big WOW! He does it all very well but hey, let's not forget the choreography. David Brown's dance moves are not the standard obligatory moves that a lot of Vegas entertainers were schooled to do. He's like this embodiment of James Brown, Michael Jackson, the Four Tops, The OJays and I mean- every group that ever had the cool moves. But this is one guy!
David builds all his own backing tracks in the recording studio, mixes himself live on stage with great audio skills and then turns up the heat and rocks the house, dancing, singing and playing like a master!
No wonder he is in such demand now. David Brown is now playing seven days a week in Las Vegas, which when you consider our troubled times and entertainment cutbacks hitting working musicians, it just proves the old addage; The cream always rises to the top!
David is also a music instructor and has come up with a cool way that you can learn how to play the saxophone too! Check out David The Sax- Man on his website today!
