It's all about the music !

SOUL

Introducing Missy Andersen

What is Soul? Is it that spiritual realm of humanity that hungers the whole life through to know of it's origin and destination? Is it a feeling that is projected from the heart and mind of an artist as one paints the canvas or plays or sings from the gut? Yes, it is all of that and more.
In the world of music there are so many genres, so many types of performers, some subdued and introverted and soft in their approach while yet others just slay you where you're sitting. Their notes and attack seem to move all heaven and earth, then cut right into your heart and move you like you've just come from an old fashioned Holiness Revival in a tent somewhere just outside city limits.
Musicians and singers who have had the upbringing in their youth and have experienced true Gospel music seem to possess an internal blueprint which affords them the will to make the crossover into Pop, Blues and the real old school R and B. Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, James Brown - these are a few of the names of the ones who taught America and the rest of the world what " Soul " music is. Interacting with so many artists never makes anyone here at DGT a judge of good music, but we are all musicians and writers and we all love music. Especially if it's good music, played with feeling. That's what it's all about, feeling- Soul.
This new artist we are introducing you to has that certain little something that makes her rise to the top. The spark, the little quirks and idiosyncrasies of her cadence and texture of her tone and the fire that lies in waiting like a dove flying over a volcano - soft and gentle, and then with a fury of passion erupting in a flow of heat! We are honored to introduce to you a lady who comes from Detroit, the heartland of Rhythm & Blues,Boogie, Gospel and Soul. An artist who has already paid her dues from years on the road and thousands of hours on the stage and now, bringing it all back to the world with her brand new CD release -
the incomparable MISSY ANDERSEN !

Born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Queens, New York, Missy’s first real memory of singing is at age six. Her mother entered Missy in a child talent contest and everyday she practiced with her after school.

Her parents had an extensive music collection that included lots of soul, R&B, blues, jazz, and gospel. Her favorite songs were always the ones that told a story. It wasn’t always the most popular song on the album, but she would play them over and over and over.

Moving to San Diego, California, she met local blues man, Earl Thomas in the late 90’s. It was then that she became one of the original Juke Joint Jezebelles, a gospel, blues, and soul quartet, who provided backup vocals for Earl’s stage show. She played and toured with Earl for several years hitting festivals and venues in the U.S. and Europe. Earl Thomas and the Jezebelles shared the stage with Ray Charles, B.B. King, Robert Cray, John Hammond, Keb’ Mo’, Kenny Neal, and The Meters.

After fronting San Diego-based band, Tell Mama, Missy felt it was time to strike out on her own. Her self-titled debut album, Missy Andersen, released on Main Squeeze Records, is an organic mix of soul and blues from another era with a healthy dose of today. She displays her talents on 8 tunes, including two originals - ‘New Feet’ (track 2) and ‘Stand Up and Dance’ (track 8). Missy Andersen (vocals) is joined by her husband and bandleader Heine Andersen (guitar), Asmus Jensen (drums), Jeppe Juul (organ) and Søren Bøjgaard (bass). Additional musicians include Nathan James playing Dobro slide guitar on track 8.
