The following transcript is an e-mail that was sent to us early this week by our friend Sheryl Miner from MIXX96 Radio in Olympia Washington. I have known Sheryl Miner and David Shriver pictured above with Eddie Cochran for many years. When I learned of this I had to share with you our readers in hopes that all of us together might spread this message out across the world. Eddie Cochran was an innovator on the guitar and vocal stylings, a dynamic entertainer and a true gentleman. To considert hat people might one day forget who he was and what he did for the world of music is unfathomable. Please read this, Tweet it, Facebook and Myspace it and e-mail it to everyone you know. And hey, if you have a phone, use it! Thanks all. Bruce Maier / Publisher![]()

Hi friends,
Listen up, this is important.
I was in Minneapolis last week to visit my son who lives there. I drove two hours south to Clear Lake, Iowa, the site of the Surf Ballroom. I wanted to see the historic ballroom, as well as the pictures of all the famous people who've played there, including Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens, who played their last concert there and then died in a plane crash that evening a few miles out of town. In the same era and music genre was Eddie Cochran, who also played there and as Dave had told me, "he is all over the place".
I couldn't find Eddie anywhere so I asked the management and they said they've taken it down and felt it would be better served up north in Albert Lea, Minn. at their historic museum. Well, the museum in Albert Lea is not a music museum, as is the Surf Ballroom. It's a museum that displays a lot of pioneer things like tools the settlers used and reconstructed log cabins and general stores. They already have a room full of Eddie stuff because he was born there. But as Dave stated, people come from all over the world to Clear Lake, not Albert Lea, because the Surf Ballroom is a living tribute to the era and genre of music that came from Eddie and the others.

To quote the Surf Ballroom's own website: "the Surf Ballroom is an American cultural icon as well as an important historical landmark."
When I told the ladies who ran the museum in Albert Lea what we were told at the Surf Ballroom, they had no idea had happened. They didn't know the memorabilia was coming to them. It almost sounds like it will all end up in storage and eventually forgotten.
It's a travesty; it's like ripping out a page in music history and pretending it never happened. We can't let Eddie's memory be put in a closet.
Please email everyone you know who would care about this and have them email or call the Surf Ballroom and tell them this is a travesty and needs to be put back up. thesurf@surfballroom.com or 641.357.6151
Thank you!
Sheryl and Dave
