Afrok (James Bowman) is an MC based out of Olympia, WA. He has a passion for hip hop music and strives to keep the essence of the art form in its purity. He and his DJ, Andrew James are locally known for their energetic and vibrant stage show as well as being young pioneers in their hip hop scene. Afrok began his journey of being a hip hop artist at a young age, while he was in middle school. Starting out as a DJ and not emerging into an MC until later in high school where he met Andrew James and created the DJing duo Capital City Squad in the year 2000.

Afrok is a husband, and a father of two children, his family is his main focus in life and his biggest inspiration with his music. Afrok raps about life, love, God, and standing up for what he believes in. He is working on an upcoming album titled "Nag Champion" and recently released the highly anticipated Mix tape/Album "Delay Of Game" hosted by DJ Luvva J and mixed by Andrew James. This project includes his songs he is most known for including the award winning 2009 "25360 Song of the Year" Shine like Diamonds. He also received the Weekly Volcano’s “25360” award of “MC of The Year” and “Best Come Up” in 2009.

Afrok’s style is influenced by old school hip hop such as The Native Tongues. Some of his favorite artists range from The Roots, Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Common, and Nas to name a few. His lyrics are clean, his vocals are clear, and his styles vary. He likes to call it a mixture of hip hop, soul, rock, jazz, and whatever else he is feeling at the time of his creative process. He sometimes works with a band in studio and on stage. Some of the members include other artists such as Justin Roberts who has produced a large bulk of Afrok’s music, Jesse Rutherford who has graced his vocals on some Afrok’s songs, and his father, Jim Bowman has played drums at some of their shows.

Afrok has had the opportunity over the years to open for some of his favorite artists and play shows with many respected artists in underground hip hop. He has played shows with Dead Prez, Murs, Lifesavas, Mystik Journeymen, Canibus, 2Mex, Sweatshop Union, Grynch, and many more.
